"Dimity Bourke, the fresh, new-ish Aussie brand has reinforced their lyrical identity this season and dished up a very sweet and wearable collection of high quality cotton dresses for day and princessy special occasion dresses." Jeanne - Bellissima Kids.
Dimity Bourke is our Co-Founder, Creative Director and Head Designer.
Dimity has spent most of her career working as an apparel designer in both women's fashion and children's fashion. She studied the Bauhaus theory of Colour at the International School of Design and Colour in Sydney.
Before becoming a fashion designer she was an interior stylist and had her own homewares brand in Australia which was stocked in leading stores. Her passion for styling led her to work with some of Australia's best known private residences.
Dimity’s inspiration is drawn from numerous global adventures and a world of past and present cultures. The carefree spirit of her daughters have influenced the creativity for our children's clothing collections:
- Allowing girls to fully express themselves
- Respecting freedom of movement, comfort,
- And above all bringing fun and style into their wardrobes.
Dimity has lived in New York, Bali, Miami, Sydney and London. One of her favourite places to visit is India, combining both the energy and vitality of New Delhi and Mumbai with the tranquility and ancient wonder of Udaipur. Vintage Indian fabrics and colourful prints are ever present in her girls wear collections.
"I want children to feel that clothes should be fun and are to be enjoyed. Getting dressed, choosing what to wear and feeling beautiful is a part of growing into a young lady. I want girls to enjoy their childhood free of inhibition and wearing beautifully designed clothes that make them feel special is a great way for them to enjoy their day."
Dimity's husband Edward Andrew is our Co-Founder and Chief Executive. He was born in London and started his career as a lawyer. He has run his own businesses in UK, Australia and India for the past 14 years and he uses those experiences every day in children's fashion.
Edward is responsible for:
- Commercial operations & strategy
- Sales & Marketing
"Fashion and e-commerce are two of the most complex businesses that I know, they are challenging but both fun and rewarding. Working with Dimity allows us me to be creative and to continue our love of travel and introduce our daughters to different cultures and see the inspiration for the designs. We want this to be a family business and hope that one day our girls will join us".
Above all we are committed to producing and maintaining the highest quality for all of our customers:
"Our design philosophies are based on meticulous attention to quality, ethics and traditional craftsmanship; while showcasing delicate trims and touches with robust yet silky soft fabrics and silhouettes which are fun in motion"
We are very lucky to be supported by a fantastic team who keep the business moving forwards every day:
- Cherie our amazing Balinese illustrator.
- Malcolm our developer.
- Katrina our marketing expert.
- Jenny in our warehouse managing logistics and orders.
- Margaret in accounts.
- Willy our assistant who is constantly on the move, collecting and delivering samples and fabrics, liaising with our suppliers.
These are my current favourites from the White Collection:
"Our White Collection was all made in India with beautifully soft cotton, lace detail and delicate embroidery. These are three of my favourites, the Akshita Skirt with exquisite hand-beaded sequins and machine embroidery border, girls Bala Blouse with a beautiful delicate centred embroidery and our Anila Top with lace trims, schiffli embroidery inserts and cord tie belt."
"Children love ‘special’ pieces as separates, which can also go together in many combinations. They love creating their own looks and stylings. It’s so heart warming to see girls so happy in a new dress or outfit…even more rewarding when they can play comfortably in their special favourites.”
Dimity Bourke is an Australian children’s designer fashion house for girls specializing in uniquely beautiful garments, outfits and accessories which are aesthetically stunning, yet fun, robust and comfortable to wear. Each collection engages a girl’s imagination. Magical cultures in faraway places inspire Dimity Bourke’s rich artisan prints and lovingly crafted shapes. The brand was created in 2012 when Australian designer Dimity Bourke was living in the English countryside. A designer for her entire career she had previously been working on her own women's fashion label. The birth of her daughters inspired her to create a girls wear brand.
"I was living in England and surrounded by so many inspirational people, I decided that I wanted to create a lifestyle brand and our girls wear brand is the first step. We had just been been to India where I had collected some amazing fabrics, lace and vintage saris, embroidered with beads and gems, radiant colours and patterns both simple and bold."
The Vintage collection was launched in January 2013 when she returned to Australia.
Six months later the brand was launched internationally at the Bubble London trade show where it was a finalist in the Rising Star competition.
From the early days of Bubble London we have continued to grow our girls wear label and have been featured in many articles by bloggers, journalists, industry magazines and international publications such as Earnshaws, Bellissima Kids and Babiekins in USA, Papier Mache and Babyology in Australia, CWB, Baby & Me and Pirouette in UK, Milk in Germany and Kidx in France.
Our founders Dimity and Edward spend a lot of time travelling with their two girls to Bali sourcing ideas from the wonderful artisan culture, meeting suppliers and developing our girls collections, accessories and finding inspiration for the lifestyle side of the brand.
"Bali is such a creative sanctuary for designers. I can source anything that comes to mind, whether organic jersey cottons, hand made wooden buttons, leather tassles and beads of all descriptions. The people are wonderful and so helpful and there is an amazing network of highly skilled creative talent. It is just so inspiring and the ideas for our second brand Dee Dee by Dimity and our accessories range were conceived there."
They are many plans for our designer fashion house and our girls wear label in particular including taking it into other markets and further developing our reach with the appointment of new agents. Our latest Autumn Winter collection was taken to the trade shows in the Northern Hemisphere in January 2015 and also included our first hand crafted leather shoe collection for girls.
We launched our second girls wear label DeeDee by Dimity in February and it is already available online for pre-order. We are really excited about DeeDee it is made from beautifully soft cotton jersey and every pieces features an exclusive print. It is aimed for girls from 2 to ten years old.
Women's wear was launched in June with our first collection entitled 'Riviera 2015' paying homage to the colours and lifestyle of the French and Italian Riviera.
We also aim to expand into homewares as well and accessories by the end of 2015.
We continue to exhibit our seasonal collections (Spring Summer and Autumn Winter) at the leading trade shows around the world in London, New York, Los Angeles and Florence. Our latest collection AW'15 was shown in New York, Dallas and Los Angeles in January this year.
- London, UK.
- Florence, Italy.
- New York, USA.
- Los Angeles, USA.
For us the most important person is the customer. We provide you with the highest possible quality in all aspects of our business from ethically sourcing our raw materials, using organic and natural materials where we can to ensuring that all of our suppliers around the world offer safe work places and respect the environment that they work in.
We source our materials for our apparel collections from all over the world:
- India supplies our leather and is known for its extreme high quality and soft buttery finish. Embroidery is also an art form.
- Our digital printing is done in China, just outside Shanghai in a factory which specialises in silk and cotton. Their finishing is amazing and the vibrancy of, and detail in, the colour is eye catching.
- Our production is mainly in Southern China but we also use specialist factories in India and Indonesia when we need to.
We take children's safety very seriously and apply the highest standards wherever they are in the world, especially ensuring that we are always CPSIA compliant for the US markets.
